A plan for our communities - written by our communities
On May 2nd you will be handed a ballot paper asking if you support the Torquay Neighbourhood Plan.
Rob and Darren will be voting Yes!
The plan has been written by volunteers from across the community in Torquay and importantly identifies 99 green spaces that are to be protected. There are eight in Shiphay as identified in the illustration.
Local Greenspace designation means that no development can take place other than for improvements to enhance the green space - for example sport facilities or projects that will help enhance and improve the area.
The plan also identifies areas for new housing and for employment and recognises the need for job creation and investment - particularly in the town centre.
As 'The Gateway' to Torquay it is particularly important that any plans for the area are supported by the community and both Rob and Darren will be vigilant to ensure the widest level of involvement from local residents.
Torquay has a rich history and valued environment - policies have been written in the plan has been written to reflect this and to discourage inappropriate development.
